The Inland Empire is California’s outdoor playground for nothing, with four ski resorts in the San Bernardino Mountains; it is no wonder outdoor enthusiasts from Los Angeles, Orange County and the San Diego flock to the Inland Empire. Offering skiing, snowboarding and tubing, San Bernardino Mountains are packed with family-friendly winter fun and considered the “most dependable snow conditions in Southern California’ and often more affordable compared to skiing up north with special mid-week deals and great value packages for families.
After a record-breaking ski season last year, the ski resorts of Big Bear Mountain Resort, Snow Valley Mountain Resort, Mountain High Ski Resort, Snow Summit and the Rim Nordic Ski Area are ready to open for another stellar winter season.
Big Bear Mountain Resorts, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, are two of Southern California’s premier family-friendly ski resorts. Big Bear is home to award winning terrain parks and 748 permitted acres with both day and night skiing and the only halfpipe in SoCal. The resorts will debut new improvements for the 2017-2018 season. There will be a large expansion of beginner terrain at the east end of Bear Mountain with two new moving-carpets to help beginners find their ski-legs. Big Bear Mountain offers tubing for adults and children over 42′ tall. Off the mountain, visitors will also rejoice in two satellite parking lots during peak season, remodeled dining areas in the main lodge and newly renovated and expanded locker rooms for comfort. Skiers and snowboarders have options to purchase season passes and can find deals and discounts here.
Snow Valley Mountain Resort started in 1924, the oldest continually operating ski resort in Southern California, is still going strong today. Snow Valley features backcountry skiing and snowboarding terrain, freestyle terrain parks and trails for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. For the 2017-2018 season, the resort will open SoCal’s first ever six-person, high-speed chairlift, the Snow Valley Express. This new lift celebrates Snow Valley’s 80th season, and is a higher-capacity lift that will greatly reduce lift line wait times.
If downhill skiing and snowboarding aren’t your thing, the Rim Nordic Ski Area is a great destination for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. They offer a groomed trail system with tracks set for classic skiing as well as skating lanes. Rentals for cross country skiing & snowshoeing are available on site. They also offer lessons for cross country skiing so you, too can try your hand- er, foot?- at this gentler sport.
Whatever your skiing or snowboarding style, you can find what you’re looking for in the winter mountains of the Inland Empire. Don’t forget to book a stay cozy cabin, a charming lodge or luxurious hotel to rest and warm your feet after a full day of winter play.
